Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. It is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently entitled to benefits or have been entitled at some point during the last 6 years. Pupil Premium is also allocated to children who are or have been looked after, or adopted or whose parents serve in the armed forces.

At Auriol, all members of staff and governors take responsibility for our disadvantaged pupils. We are committed to ensuring they receive a high quality education which meets their academic, social and wellbeing needs. Through providing a broad and balanced curriculum, as well as developing strong relationships with individuals, staff are empowered in knowing they have the opportunity to make a difference to the trajectory and future life chances of our students. Our vision is to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to be interested and interesting people and to contribute positively to their community and wider society.

We recognise that not all children from low-income families will be disadvantaged and that not all pupils who are disadvantaged will be eligible for pupil premium.

The intended effect of Pupil Premium funding is to accelerate progress and raise attainment for our pupils who are at an educational disadvantage.

Our ultimate objectives for our disadvantaged pupils are:

  1. For disadvantaged pupils to achieve in line with non-disadvantaged pupils.
  2. To improve maths, reading and writing progress and attainment results so that they are in line with or above national average.
  3. Children receive appropriate mental health support so that they can access the curriculum

Below is an outline of some of the strategies we are implementing at Auriol over the next three years to achieve the outcomes listed above:

  • Ensuring quality first teaching by providing teachers with professional development on thoroughly implementing a broad, culture rich and knowledge based curriculum.
  • Embedding maths mastery and increasing mathematical fluency using Maths No Problem
  • Providing targeted academic support in language, phonics, reading, spelling and maths
  • Dedicating time for teachers to work 1:1 with pupils to target writing development
  • Establishing Homework Clubs for disadvantaged pupils
  • Having a Wellbeing Mentor to lead a range SEMH interventions
  • An SEMH lead (SEMH) lead  to oversee SEMH interventions, wellbeing of disadvantaged children and to link with our families

The school has extensive monitoring and support systems in place to enable favourable outcomes for the most vulnerable pupils. Middle leaders use data to evaluate the impact the Pupil Premium strategy is having and make appropriate changes within their subject or year group where necessary. In addition, our Pupil Premium Lead monitors and evaluates the impact of PP spending regularly to ensure that all strategies which have been implemented are accelerating progress and attainment for disadvantaged pupils.

If you think your child may eligible to receive this additional funding and support but are not sure whether the school are aware of this, please speak in confidence to Mrs Ellie Wilson
